Reform Through Fintech
11.2 - 11.4
The SWUFE-CDAR Symposium, presented in partnership with the Chengdu Municipal Bureau of Financial Work and State Street Corporation, will convene on November 2-4, 2018, at the Waldorf Astoria in Chengdu, China. Our conference will bring together academic and industry leaders in finance and technology with government and regulatory leaders to discuss the path of FinTech in driving reform as well as its impact on China’s financial market opening, access, and regulations. Confirmed speakers from finance and technology include Robert C. Merton, Michael I. Jordan, Shachar Kariv and Roberto Rigobon.
Located in Chengdu, Sichuan province of China, Southwestern University of Finance and Economics (SWUFE) is one of China’s leading universities for the study of finance and economics. The Consortium for Data Analytics in Risk (CDAR) supports research into innovation in data science and its applications to portfolio management and investment risk. Based in the Economics and Statistics Departments at UC Berkeley, CDAR was co-founded with State Street, Stanford, Berkeley Institute for Data Science (BIDS), and SWUFE. This year, CDAR welcomes a new founding member, Swiss Re based in Switzerland, and a new industry partner, AXA Rosenberg. CDAR organizes conferences, workshops, and research programs, bringing together academic researchers from the physical and social sciences, and industry researchers from financial management firms and technology development companies large and small.
This invitation-only session will be a closed door discussion for invited senior level participants that focus on FinTech's impact on China’s financial market opening, access, and regulations. This forum will allow participants from industry, government, regulators, and academia to openly discuss challenges and opportunities as well as provide recommendations for expanding collaboration for research and business development.
As the main conference event for registered participants, this symposium will explore the path of FinTech in driving reform. Against the backdrop of Chengdu as the financial and technology center of western China, researchers from academia and industry in both finance and technology will present the latest research and discuss topics that impact the growth of FinTech. Speakers from government and industry will join finance and technology researchers, including Robert C. Merton, Michael I. Jordan, Shachar Kariv and Roberto Rigobon. A social mixer and banquet dinner will conclude the day's program.
Along with a visit to the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, conference participants will attend the presentation and judging session of the Chengdu 80 competition. Chengdu 80 is a FinTech Design and Development competition for academic participants utilizing open source technology. As part of the SWUFE-CDAR annual conference, Chengdu 80 will provide opportunities for students to interact with leading academics in finance and technology, international financial institutions, and government and regulatory leaders.
